Cape Jaffa Wines & The Robe Primary School get on board for National Tree Day

 

Cape Jaffa Wines (www.capejaffawines.com.au) & the Robe Primary school are making a positive contribution to the environment and the health of our community by getting involved in Schools Tree Day, Australia’s biggest tree planting and nature care event, on Friday 29 July.

A total of 50 students and teachers will descend on the winery and with the help of the team from Cape Jaffa Wines will plant over 150 trees.  Students from year’s 4 to 7 have been invited to spend the morning out of the classroom, planting trees in the wineries native woodlot followed by an interactive demonstration on biodynamic farming.  The students will be rewarded with a BBQ lunch as a thank you!

“We are encouraging students to connect with their environment through involvement in Schools Tree Day and thank them for their contribution in advance” says Derek Hooper, general manager at Cape Jaffa Wines.

Part of National Tree Day, Schools Tree Day is an event organised by Planet Ark for children and young people to learn about trees and the role they play in our environment in a fun and practical way.

“New research shows that Aussie kids are spending far less time outdoors than the previous generation,” says Planet Ark spokesperson Rebecca Gilling. “Schools Tree Day is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in a fun event to look after their parks, schools and bushland, which has long-lasting benefits for the entire community.”

“It’s fantastic to see younger generations inspired by getting outside and planting trees. Such simple actions have positive flow-on effects for years to come – not only environmental benefits, but instilling the values of collaboration and responsibility in the children and improving their health and wellbeing,” says Gilling.

Since National Tree Day began in 1996, more than 2.5 million volunteers have planted 16 million native trees, shrubs and grasses.

Cape Jaffa Wines receives best business accolade.

Cape Jaffa Wines (www.capejaffawines.com.au) has been awarded Best Business at the 2011 Influential Women in Business Awards hosted by Women in Business & Regional Development Inc (WIBRD), whose mission it is, to ignite the potential of women by encouraging, supporting and training businesses and promoting leadership skills.  Anna Hooper accepted the award on behalf of Cape Jaffa Wines.

The Influential Women in Business Awards celebrate and recognise the achievements of women in business throughout the limestone coast region.  Entries are open to women who are enjoying success in building their own business, and to female employees who have made an outstanding impact in contributing to the success of the business.

Awards are presented based on a written submission. Entrants are asked to provide an overview of their business, detail significant achievements and initiatives, and share some of the secrets of their success, from setting goals to effectively achieving a work life balance.

Through the entry Anna’s efforts at Cape Jaffa Wines were highlighted including the integral role she played in helping Cape Jaffa Wines achieve biodynamic certification.   Cape Jaffa Wines was also commended for its commitment to the environment and sustainability through involvement in a range of community projects designed to help sustain the local area for future generations.

Anna Hooper was presented with a voucher for a full day group, corporate training program to be held at the Noorla Yo-Long Blue Light Outdoor Adventure camp.  “This prize will be a great opportunity for the Cape Jaffa Wines team to participate in leadership development activities as well as challenge our team dynamics” said Anna Hooper.

Cape Jaffa releases first South Australian fully-certified botrytis wine

It’s here!  After many patient weeks, the Jaffa crew have managed to put out South Australia’s first fully certified biodynamic sticky under its La Lune label.

The dessert wine, which boasts a bouquet of apricot nectar and honeysuckle, was left on the vines until late June to develop. Our only release after our very popular 2004 vintage of Jaffa Juice under the Cape Jaffa label (it was a particularly hard job to develop botrytis naturally in our vineyard this time around due to our certified status), both the crew and our customers are thrilled with the result.

A definite knockout alongside blue cheese, quince paste and lavosh, this new addition to the La Lune family serves as the perfect accompaniment to our cellar door cheese platters.  If you’re in the area be sure to stick your head into our cellar door for a taste.

Cool climate gold for Cape Jaffa’s 2007 La Lune Cabernet!

Our new release 2007 La Lune Cabernet Sauvignon has been lucky enough to pick up a gold medal at this year’s National Cool Climate Wine Show.  Blackcurrant, cassis and hints of mint headline in this medium-bodied number, which has been produced to exacting biodynamic standards.  Our first gold medal for the certified biodyamic range, we’re chuffed to have impressed with this great example of Mout Benson’s distinct regionality.

Cape Jaffa Wines receives silver medal at the 2009 South Australian Tourism Awards

Cape Jaffa picked up a silver medal in the category of tourism wineries, distilleries and boutique breweries at the 2009 South Australian Tourism Awards last Saturday night.

The award was the result of a 30-page submission we completed detailing our contribution to tourism through an in-depth analysis of their key markets, business plan, financial viability, sustainable practices and innovative approaches.

The tourism wineries category is a very competitive one, and the calibre of wineries we were competing against was very high, including the likes of Jacob’s Creek Visitor Information Centre, Poplars Winery and Sinclair’s Gully who won the category this year, so to win a silver medal in this category is a great honour!

A big congratulations goes to Sinclair’s Gully on their win, whose efforts towards not only creating a truly unique tourism product but also a sustainable business resonates with our own goals and aspirations at Cape Jaffa.

 Cape Jaffa Wines received a bronze medal in the same category at last year’s South Australian Tourism Awards.

Cape Jaffa Wines picks up SA Great regional sustainability award!

Running a biodynamic vineyard, counting carbon emissons and planting trees has paid off for us this year as Cape Jaffa took out the 2009 SA Great regional sustainability award for the Limestone Coast in an awards ceremony in Mount Gambier last week.

The award recognises the winery’s adoption of sustainable practices and its recent partnership with Greening Australia to raise funds for a conservation action plan to be established for the Coorong-Ngarkat corridor.

 The Limestone Coast is a diverse region which relies heavily on agricultural industries and nature-based tourism attractions, which is another reason we’re keen to reduce our carbon footprint and implement sustainable business practices going forward.

We’re thrilled to be recognised for our efforts in building a sustainable business and hope that the move we’re making towards reducing our environmental impact will inspire others in the region to do the same.

Kendo spirit glass confirmed for certified BD sticky

Hooray!  After many weeks flicking through the Saverglass catalogue we’ve finally settled on a bottle for South Australia’s first fully certified biodynamic botrytis semillon.  The Kendo spirit bottle is a 350mL version of our La Lune Rosé bottle, the Kendo Bamboo, creating a great sense of synergy within the range, and will be sealed under a premium Diam closure.  With an anticipated release date of December 2009, this bidynamic drop should tantalise the tastebuds of visitors to the cellar door this summer!
